Awesome 100/10
We absolutely loved the barn. Couldn’t think of one thing that we would like to change. Our group had a great time taking hikes, enjoying the scenery and spending hours in the game room. We will be recommending this to all of our friends and family. We are grateful for the memories we made and can’t wait to come back! Thank you!

Hidden Gem of Lake Superior
We enjoyed a long weekend stay with a small group of family for an intimate wedding at the Barn. The accommodations were perfect for our family of all ages (1 – 80 years old). Plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked with everything you could possibly need and the deck was perfect for enjoying the lake breezes. We loved the snorkel tub and sauna, plenty of firewood was provided to get both extra warm for enjoying star gazing. The private beach was perfect for sea glass searching and rock collecting. There is lots of trails to explore and enjoy. The barn was truly a hidden gem along the shore of Lake Superior. The owners and caretakers were excellent to work with, very responsive and helpful. The lack of Wi-Fi was perfect to truly disconnect and enjoy every moment of our stay. We plan to be back in the near future!

Great Family Get-Together
Our family’s get-together at the BARN was made up of nine adults, three teens and two dogs. We ALL agree it was a wonderful venue for a family gathering. Our week consisted of… *delicious meals cooked in the gourmet kitchen, eaten around a large table, *restful sleep in comfortable beds, *spacious interior for us to spread out, *beautiful sunrises and sunsets while sitting on the wrap around deck, *amazing starlit nights, *privacy and seclusion, *revitalizing soaks in the hot tub and sauna, *a huge lawn area for outdoor games, *and a game room for hours of fun, *endless selection of entertaining movies, *refreshing swims in the lake, *and peaceful strolls along the beach. We truly enjoyed our time at the BARN! Thank you Tom and Nicole for sharing your beautiful BARN with our family.

Family Reunion
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this beautiful property. We had a week long family reunion. Great accommodations. Only negative was the water, hardly drinkable, we bought bottled. Also, dish washer did a poor job on washing dishes.

Beautiful property! The pictures, though lovely, don’t quite do it justice. Home is in good repair and clean. Caretakers friendly and accommodating.

Maple, WI Winter Retreat
This was our 4th time at The Barn and our friend’s 1st time. We were so excited to share this beautiful space and property with our friends! During the day we took advantage of the huge new snow fall with hikes to the Lake Superior and sledding down the slide hills. At night we played shuffleboard, ping pong and lots of cards. The hot tub and sauna’s were a labor of love and so worth the wait! The views inside and outside are mesmerizing. Each day Lake Superior looked different and equally beautiful. We look forward to staying again someday in the future!

Christmas at The Lake Superior Barn
Our family of 11 adults (ages 20-78) thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations at Lake Superior Barn. Plenty of room from bedrooms to reading nooks to gathering around the large dining table for games, puzzles and meals. Extra-large kitchen had everything we needed from dishes, pots and pans, multiple refrigerators, and pantry. In floor heating, fireplace and space heaters in the bedrooms kept us toasty warm. Lots of entertainment options available with games, books, ping pong, record player and a giant Jenga set. We loved the giant entryway for all of our winter boots, snow clothes and “stuff”. Perhaps our favorite part of our Lake Superior Barn experience was being on the property. We were blessed with mild weather upon arrival and encountered a few days of frigid cold and a foot of snow. We snowshoe’ d and walked the property multiple times each day – with multiple pit stops at the shore. Fascinating to watch the water go from calm and rhythmic rolling waves to choppy and stormy waves to massive ice formations over just a few days! We loved our time at The Barn and plan to return! Thank you!

Winter Retreat
January 16, 2018
There are myriad reasons a person might seek the shores of Lake Superior: to be alone among the birches; to breathe the pure Wisconsin air; a casual speedboat cruise gone horribly awry. For the 8 of us, it was a 2-night real estate retreat held in early January.
The Lake Superior Barn is one of those places that can only be truly understood in person—it will be unlike any other lodging you’ve seen before. Everything on the property has been meticulously chosen, its interior comprised of materials from numerous other barns. There’s no WiFi by design, and all the extra features—sauna, hot tub, and fireplace—are wood-burning. During daylight hours, the entire barn (and hot tub) overlook Lake Superior. We didn’t get to enjoy the porch or deck due to it being the dead of winter, but I’m sure future visits will give us the chance.
This place checks all the boxes: pastoral surroundings, a giant kitchen with great appliances, a rec/games space for kids & adults alike, ample bathrooms & showers, and so many beds we couldn’t count them. It’s easy to see why the Lake Superior Barn is always in high demand: It’s completely one-of-a-kind.

Beautiful Home!
We had a wonderful long weekend with a bunch of friends. We had 18 people total but the house never felt crowded. Room for everyone to be together and also spots to go to get away from things for a while. The house is beautiful and well taken care of. Thanks for sharing your beautiful space with us!

Amazing place!
The property was incredible. You truly are secluded with a 180 degree view of Lake Superior from the backyard. The barn itself was very cool and rustic. We had 18 people for the weekend and with all the beds, it was very accommodating. I will definitely be back!

Nicole,
We all enjoyed our time at the barn very much. Thanks for allowing us all to have the opportunity. The barn and the property are a spectacular site. I never tired of looking at all of the detail in the barn. The lighting selection is one of my favorites. We also enjoyed walking several of the trails. Our stay is definitely a memory that all who were involved will talk about for years to come.
If given the opportunity again, I’m sure we will be in touch to see about another stay at the Lake Superior Barn someday. Thanks again!

Hi Nicole,
We had a great time! The barn house was a perfect place for our family reunion. Everyone was awed by the experience. For me, the best part was the quiet. Absolute. When I needed time away from the barn house bustle, I knew I could find only nature’s sounds at the fire pit or down on the beach. Especially the beach. PLUS, the weather was OUTSTANDING! Perseids meteor shower was happening — some in my family had never seen it before. Awesome.
Thanks again for sharing your vacation home with us.

Dear Tom and Nicole-
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband’s 50th Birthday. Scott and Kris met us at arrival and were most kind and inviting. They started our vacation off on such a great note.
We just wanted to say thank you for sharing such a beautiful and private place. We feel love in with your home and will have memories to last a lifetime.
Sincerely-
– Melanie (the Bekos Family- August 3rd-August 10th-2012)
Hi Nicole,
We had such a nice time. The Barn is beautiful and we lucked out with a sunny day for Saturday. The girls all loved it. We hope to reserve the Barn for a reunion for sometime next year. Also, I have to tell you that Scott is a wonderful caretaker. In addition to helping us find the Kro Bar and giving us the history of the Barn, one of the girls got a flat tire on the driveway on the way out and he came and patched the tire right there in the driveway.
Thanks,
– Kristy
THANK YOU for letting us have our small wedding at the barn. We couldn’t have been happier. The highlight of the celebration was the day before the wedding when our friends and family arrived. The looks of amazement on their faces when they came up the stairs was priceless. Also, the night before our friends arrived my groom and I had 2 PERFECTLY restful nights falling asleep in front of the fireplace with our pooch.
We had 20 guests for the actual wedding day and it was the perfect place for an intimate get together. The lake and the barn are forever part of the biggest day of our lives.
Both Nicole and Scott were so great and easy to work with. Our vendors were BLOWN away by the beauty and rustic BUT elegant details. Our photographer was in heaven – the lighting and the backdrop made for AMAZING pictures.
I couldn’t have imagined it any other way.
For the last 5 weeks since the wedding I have had almost EVERY single guest ask for the website so they could tell their friends about it too…
Also, I would say, unlike other rental properties, this location is WAY better in person – if you can even believe that.
– Malia
Tom and Nicole, We all had such an amazing stay at the barn this weekend. Our only complaint was that we had to leave! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful property with us.

Hi Tom and Nicole, My husband and I just wanted to write to say thank you for the wonderful stay that we had at the Barn. It is an amazingly beautiful place (and obviously a labor of love with great attention to detail!). Scott and his family were great, and explained everything we needed to know to enjoy our stay.
Thanks so much,
– Mayra & Bret
I just wanted to check back with you and tell you what a wonderful time we had, and what a wonderful place you have! The house is amazing. So many thoughtful details! You obviously spent many hours planning just what you wanted and your builders carried through. ‘Loved the recycling of old materials throughout. We loved beach combing and the sunsets were remarkable, of course. ‘Loved watching the twinkling lights of Duluth and Two Harbors at night. ‘Had a fun time in the hot tub. Our weather was perfect. Well done, Wolfes. I hope you and your family will be able to enjoy it this summer, too.
Scott is a delightful proxy host, and made us feel quite at home. Many, many thanks~
– Barbara
My brothers and sisters and I came from 4 different states to bring our parents to The Barn for a week for their 40th wedding anniversary. There were 11 adults and 7 kids and everyone had a great time. The house was amazing and just the right amount of space for our family to be together or spread out. We spent most of our time cooking and playing games, having fires at night, and enjoying the awesome beach. We compiled our pictures on day 5 and had over 800, so there is no way we will forget the incredible time we had at The Barn. Thanks, Tom and Nicole, for sharing your home with us and providing just about everything we could have needed while there!
– Melanie
Thank you so much for your generosity to have our Wish family have their first real family vacation. They said staying at the Lake Superior Barn was more than they could ever dream of.
It’s a special thanks to you and our other donors that allows us to grant over 250 wishes per year. Best wishes from all of us at Make-A-Wish of MN

I just wanted to send you a quick note to tell you how wonderful our weekend at the barn was. We had such a blast- your place is amazing and each one of us will never forget it. Scott was super helpful and so nice, we felt very taken care of. Everyone absolutely LOVED your place and all want to come back one day. So thank you again for opening up your home and sharing it with us.
We will definitely be coming back (this time with our husbands, they were so jealous). Blessings to you and your family,
– Summer
I brought my entire family up for our yearly reunion. Almost every age group was represented. We had a perfect weekend. Such a beautiful, welcoming spot. The barn is a very special place set in a spectacular setting. Everyone found their spot to enjoy the weekend. The grown-ups on the patio. The kids on the beach. Everyone gathered at the fire pit in the evening. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the Barn in March. The weather was wintery and a spring-like mix. It gave us an opportunity to spend time outside hiking the trails, enjoying the sauna and hottub, as well as fun and games inside the spacious Barn. Our group of 12 consisted of family members age 7 through retirees and there was something for everyone.
Our thanks to Nicole and Tom for making sure we were well provided for and for sharing their beautiful space with us. Everyone in the group would definitely like to do it again.
– Marge Rakow
We stayed here with 3 other families about a month ago and are still talking about how spectacular this place was. The barn is so magnificently done. Spacious, rustic and luxurious all at the same time. The view is wonderful and the property allows for lots of exploring. Hope to come back year after year.
– Sandri Rutten
Well, we all had an absolutely perfect weekend at the Barn. The Barn is quite amazing. We spent a lot of time snow shoeing and cross country skiing. We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather… just beautiful. We are all “foodies”, so, we enjoyed cooking together in the kitchen. It was great to have the seating space so people could enjoy each other while cooking. The boys were thrilled with the sauna yesterday afternoon.
All we can say is, wow, and I’m sure we’ll be back again! Just wanted you to know what a great time we had. Thank you!
– Lisa and Jon Anderson
LOVE LOVE LOVE the Barn! Our group of 10 spent a relaxing 3 days in January at the Barn. Highlights included snowshoeing in the woods and onto a very frozen Lake Superior, sitting in the sauna, crazy ping pong tournaments, reading by the fire, enjoying fantastic food and wine and playing games well into the night. We’re anxious to come back!
I recommend to any and all

We had a wonderful time at a truly fantastic home. Everything was great! Being able to share a few days with family members and having 5 kids sharing time with their Great Grandma was unforgettable. It is already in the plans for another trip back to “The Barn”.
Taking walks on the beach to just sitting on the deck watching the sunsets. This was what a vacation is supposed to be. The home has all the amenities you could want and with Duluth/Superior/Bayfield just short drives away the location is perfect. Thanks for sharing your property with us and we cannot wait to come again.
– The Smrcka Family
A truly unique and wonderful home. We have nothing like this in England! Spectacular wilderness location, yet all the comforts – and luxuries- of a very special home. The views are spectacular, the walks in the surrounding woods were simply lovely. We felt we got to sample a real piece of America. Thank-you for sharing it with us! We loved it!
– Marion and Adrian Siviter. England
We stayed at this unique and fabulous home in June 2010. The minute you walk through the doors you are just “wowed” at the spaces and unique finishes in this “barn”. I love how you have a view of Lake Superior from virtually every room of this place. The expansive deck and it’s outdoor seating is a great place to enjoy your morning cup of coffee. The walk to the beach is steep but well worth it.
We saw eagles, deer and a bear. It’s very private so if you’re inclined to whoop and hollar you’re not going to disturb anyone yet if you are in need of anything there is a caretaker available and he is very prompt. No cable but loved all the movie choices on the TV system. We thoroughly enjoyed the ping pong and foosball tables also. It’s an easy drive to Bayfield which is a quaint lakeside town. My husband and son canoed the Brule River on another day. We ended our stay there with a lunch at the Anchor Bar in Superior. Very cool place and great food, especially the burgers. Memories were made thanks to Tom and Nicole sharing this “jewel of the lake”.
– Lisa Cousins
I would just like to say that I rode up to The Barn in August with 15 friends. This place blew us away. Very clean very affordable and it was by far the best place we have stayed in. And we have stayed at some nice places throughout Wisconsin. 17 year I have been organizing this road trip. We are all Harley owners and I know that some place are leary about that. But Tom Wolfe treated us as we were family, and that goes along way. The barn has everything you need to forget about the outside world. Peaceful is a good word.
We would come back again and again, the only concern we all had was the ride in, not good if it rains, you have to be an experience riders for sure. But I can’t say enough about this place, trust me book it and realize that you just booked one of the most beautiful places in this great state.

Our family stayed at the “barn” September 13th – 15th and have nothing but great memories from the experience. WOW!! What a magnificent place!! From the stunning view of Lake Superior to the wooded acreage of the property to the “Welcome Home” feel of the house. This place was just what we all needed… quiet, cozy, private, picturesque and unique.
The walks on the beach were chilly but invigorating as we waded in the lake and searched out perfect rocks and driftwood as souvenirs. The solitude of the private beach made the climb back up the steep path to the house well worth it. This place is a hidden jewel and we are already talking about our next visit. Thank you Tom and Nicole for opening up your little piece of paradise to us.
– Kim S.
Our stay at the Barn this past summer was wonderful. We loved all the windows and the wrap around deck to take in all of Lake Superior. We enjoy cooking so the kitchen was great. The center island with seating all around was perfect for our large family. We also liked that it was open to the dining/living room and we could enjoy the fireplace while preparing our meals.
We had our children and grandchildren with us and there was always something fun to do. We took long walks in the woods crossing over little streams on foot bridges and stopping in to see the real Tepee. Our walks along the sandy shore collecting sea glass and drift wood was a daily ritual. The water was so nice when we were there even the old grandma went in!
We had an occasional deer on the property and a pair of Eagles who would soar back and forth and land in their nest; it was amazing to watch. We ended each day with a relaxing hot tub/sauna or sometimes would just watch the sun set on the deck. It was all so nice, thank you, we will be back.
– Karen & Bob
My entire extended family joined us for a weekend at the Lake Superior Barn Oct 15 – 17. This included ages 4 months to 67 years old. Everyone was blown away by the beauty of the Barn (house) and the property. The Great Room provided the perfect spot for most of us to hang out while the kids loved the Game Room and sleeping in the bunk rooms in the loft.
We hiked the trails, walked the beach, played football on the lawn, spent some time in the hot tub and sauna, and sat in the teepee. I think the most enjoyable thing was looking at all of the cool things and touches that Tom and Nicole have put into their Barn. What a stunning place. Incredibly relaxing and cozy… the perfect place to get away!!
